Now that you’re well on your way to becoming a teenager, your body will undergo a number of changes. Just like brushing your teeth every night, it’s vital that you develop a good skin care regime that includes washing your face, using a toner, and applying moisturizer to seal in the results.

Read on to see the perfect skin care routine for pre-teens:

Wash Your Face

Consider using a mild facial cleanser like the CeraVe Hydrating Cleanser, or Aveeno Ultra-Calming Hydrating Gel Cleanser. This will allow you to remove the sweat, dirt, and oil trapped on your skin's surface. If you suffer from blemishes, use a cleanser that contains benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid to prevent the formation of new acne. When sebum and dead skin cells become trapped on the skin, it can cause blackheads to form. At this age, it may be easier to use cleansing cloths. In this case, Burt’s Bees Facial Cleansing Towelettes are a great alternative. Neutrogena, Cetaphil, and CeraVe also carry comparable cleansing wipes.

Exfoliate and Tone

Regular exfoliation prevents breakouts by removing dead skin cells from the surface of your skin. Use an exfoliant like Tree Hut Shea Sugar Scrub or Aveeno Positively Radiant Skin Brightening Daily Scrub 2-3 times a week for maximum results. Toner is also an essential item in any skin care routine as it shrinks pores, restores your skin’s PH balance, adds a layer of protection, refreshes, and can prevent ingrown hairs. In addition, it tightens your pores allowing fewer oils and toxins to settle into the skin and provides hydration which plays an essential role in the elasticity, smoothness, and moisture levels of your skin. I recommend a toner like Mario Badescu Facial Spray with Aloe, Herbs, and Rosewater. Witch hazel is a good alternative, and it’s budget-friendly!

Moisturize

When applied correctly, moisturizer boosts hydration in your skin, prevents flaking and dullness, and creates a protective layer of moisture that lasts throughout the day. A good hydrating moisturizer contains antioxidants, replenishing ingredients, and restoring ingredients. It may seem counterproductive to moisturize if you have oily skin, but if you don’t hydrate, your skin will produce an excess amount of oil to compensate for the lack of moisture. Because you don’t need a ton of additional moisture at this age, a simple product like EltaMD UV Facial Broad-Spectrum SPF 30+ is great, and it contains SPF! Burt’s Bees and CeraVe also have excellent moisturizers available.
